Today in History: Elvis Presley Drafted??

Today in History —> December 20, 2017 —> December 20, 1957

When it comes to being drafted into the United States Army it leaves no one out. Including, the rock-and-roll star Elvis Presley. In the year 1957 on this day, he received his draft notice to join the army. His fans sent hundreds of letters to the army begging them to spare his life, but Presley told them to stand down. He wanted to honor his country and set an example for other young men. So after finishing up some projects, he packed his bags and left. For six months he went through basic training then sailed to Europe on the USS General Randall where he served for 18 months in Company D, 32nd Tank Battalion, 3rd Armor Corps in Friedberg, Germany.

To make this story even more interesting, Presley attained the rank of sergeant and when day work was over he would sneak off to host parties and jam sessions.

Eventually, the singer was discharged on March 2, 1960 and his determination to obey his draft call influenced many young Americans to either join the army or receive their vaccine shots.

On the side of Presley there were other celebrities who were drafted into the army. You might know these men —> Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman! Say WHAT!!!

So do you know anyone from the past or the present who was drafted into the army? Family? Friend? Or another celebrity? Please Share Below!
